My approach to producing paintings based on photographic images centres around an aim to not just replicate a photograph , but to produce a piece which has a suggestion of more than just the captured moment of a single photograph. I often use several different source photographs combined to create a new composition which can then be rendered as an oil painting. This approach gives me the freedom to move beyond the limitations of a simple enlargement. I also often move the perspective around to blend together any differences in source images and to naturalise the view.

I am very concerned that the finished work is understood as and works primarily as a painting.
I try to use images which are considered , are visually interesting , have good dynamics , have interesting light
and have a good range of textures and surfaces which utilise the light well.
